The New Horizons School will provide an educational alternative dedicated to the personal, academic, and vocational growth of our students, enabling them to become contributing members of their communities.

Our Purpose

The New Horizons School is an alternative school of choice. The school serves students who benefit from a non-traditional approach to education. There are three distinct programs: a day middle school, a day high school, and an evening high school.

The New Horizons staff is dedicated to working effectively with at-risk students in a structured, student-centered environment. Students who successfully complete instruction at New Horizons are well prepared for continuing higher education or entering the work force directly. New Horizons offers low student-to-teacher ratios to allow more interaction, both academic and social. Through daily interaction with a teacher advocate, students have the opportunity to develop meaningful, working relationships with adults. The advocate acts as a mentor, academic advisor, and as parents' primary contact with the school.

Applied learning immerses students in the educational environment through integrated, experiential activities. Hands-on experience both in and out of the classroom makes a connection between academics and the real world.
New Horizons encourages parent involvement and follows the Comer School Development Plan to emphasize student achievement through the collaboration of the home, school and community. In addition, the school regularly invites guest speakers into the school to share with and support students.

Throughout the school year, New Horizons utilizes the school action plan as a means to focus efforts toward improving student achievement. While there is still work to be done on raising student achievement, New Horizons students have made gains in academic growth according to the Longitudinal Student Growth Model measurement used by the Colorado Department of Education.
